Why to choose toughened glass?

  • What is Toughened glass?

    Toughened Glass is a type of safety glass made by changing the chemical properties of annealed glass through heat treatment. Naked eye cannot differentiate between annealed and toughened glass. It is 4 to 5 times stronger than annealed glass of same thickness and dimension. It shatters to small pieces if broken and doesn’t harm physically. Toughened glasses are marked with logo of the manufacturer.

  • Can we change the dimension or drill a hole in toughened glass?

    Once glass has been toughened no physical changes can be made i.e. no cutting, no edge finishing, no fabrication such as hole , cutout or else the glass will be shattered. Before ordering toughened glass one should always recheck the dimensions, allow tolerance for edge processing and be double sure of hole and cutout details.

  • What are the maximum and minimum sizes, thickness that can be toughened?

    Minimum 4 mm glass and dimension 250 x 250 mm can be toughened, the maximum thickness of 19 mm glass and dimension 3660 x 2440 mm can ne toughened.

  • What is the maximum temperature toughened glass can withstand?

    Toughened glass can withstand as high as 240°c where as annealed glass can withstand maximum 40°c.

    Toughened Glass is used in shower cubicles, partitions, balustrades, Doors and Windows, Glazing facade and also in automobile industries as side windows (not front and back).
